ISBA has been actively involved in reforming the banking sector to enhance competition and reduce interest rates. We have championed the introduction of full banking licenses for Ireland’s post offices and credit unions, and we are strong advocates for public and community banking systems across Ireland. In this effort, we have collaborated closely with the Public Banking Forum of Ireland, working together to diversify the banking market, provide consumers with more options, and create a competitive environment that fosters fairer interest rates.

Construction Sector
ISBA is committed to promoting fair competition in the construction industry, ensuring that smaller contractors can compete with larger firms. We address monopolistic practices and advocate for fair procurement laws, ensuring that public contracts are accessible to small and medium-sized businesses. Through these efforts, ISBA helps create a more competitive and equitable construction sector.

With broad international experience, ISBA plays a vital role in the construction materials sector, particularly in cement, concrete, quarry, and asphalt industries. Our efforts aim to ensure that smaller businesses can compete fairly in markets often dominated by large corporations. We are dedicated to combating monopolistic practices that hinder competition and drive up prices.

Agriculture and Food Sector
The agricultural sector is another important area for ISBA, where we have worked extensively with small producers, particularly in the beer and bread industries. In addition to supporting the broader agri-sector, we also focus on niche markets, such as the craft beer industry, ensuring that small producers have fair access to the market and are not overshadowed by larger players.

ISBA is dedicated to fighting anti-competitive practices in the pharmaceutical sector, such as pay-for-delay, tied selling, exclusive supply agreements, and resale price maintenance. We work to ensure fair pricing and market access for smaller pharmaceutical companies and generics producers, helping to lower costs and foster innovation.

Currently, ISBA is engaging with the motor vehicle sector to address concerns around anti-competitive practices and artificially inflated prices. Our work here is focused on creating a fairer, more competitive environment that benefits both small businesses and consumers.

Fishing Sector
ISBA supports fair competition in the fishing industry, advocating for small-scale fisheries and independent operators. In Ireland, catastrophic fishing quota allocation by the European Union is severely impacting local fishermen and destroying the country’s fishing industry. This is a regulatory issue rather than one caused by monopolies or corporations. ISBA is working to address these imbalances and push for fairer EU Quotas.
